Constructing an isometric projection using grid paper

This example shows the steps involved in constructing an isometric projection of a lamp.

Step 1 – Draw the overall isometric box for the form using a hard and sharp 2H pencil.

Step 2 – Add boxes within the isometric box for individual parts of the form.

Step 3 – Add in the details to each box, starting from the lowest point. Then use a softer 2B pencil to define the form.

EXERCISES

Look at the blocks shown here. Each block has been cut from a 50mm cube. Try drawing each block in isometric projection using isometric grid paper.
